PEDIATRIC FIRST AID & CPR
Each year tens of thousands of children are seriously injured or die from injuries, some which could have been prevented or, with receipt of first aid, could have survived. This American Heart Association course teaches Pediatric First Aid along with CPR and AED. This course meets the requirements for day care providers.

Heartsaver First Aid & CPR
This course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical services personnel arrive. The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult / child / infant CPR, and AED.

Healthcare Provider CPR
This course teaches the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-valve mask device, and oxygen), use of an AED and relief of FBAO in responsive and non-responsive victims. This course is designed for healthcare providers who care for patients in a wide variety of settings, both in and out of hospital. This course is intended for healthcare providers requiring a level C course.

REDUCED-COST FRIENDS & FAMILY CPR
New River Medical Center is partnering with the American Heart Association to offer a reduced-cost CPR class for $20.  This CPR for Friends & Family class teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies and includes CPR for adults, children and infants.  Class is intended for family members, friends, and members of the community who want to learn CPR, but do not need a course completion card. Class size is limited. Call 763.271.2388 to register.

Child Passenger Safety Program

This free seminar covers topics such as Child Passenger Safety (CPS) issues, crash dynamics, car restraint systems, choosing the proper car seat, child seat misuse, and new latch and tether systems.

Childbirth Preparation
This weekly class series covers the topics of breathing and relaxation, labor positions and delivery, pain management, birthing process expectations, being an effective labor coach and postpartum recovery. A tour of the Birthing Center, safety concerns and care for your new baby are included.

Daddy 101

Babysitting Class
This popular class is offered to children 11 years and older. Infant and child care skills, accident prevention, and basic first aid will be taught. Situations for problem-solving will be presented and discussion time will be encouraged. This one-day class offers American Red Cross Curriculum and is instructed by American Red Cross-trained staff. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch or may purchase lunch at the hospital cafeteria. United Way Grants are available for those who meet financial criteria. Understanding your heart
a look at preventing and managing hypertension

Come and learn more about heart disease and prevention.  Dr. Susan Johnson, Albertville/St. Michael Clinic, and Dr. Kevin Graham, Minneapolis Heart Institute, will be speaking.  Blood pressure checks will also be offered.  This free program will take place on Thursday, Feb 17 from 7:00-8:00 pm in Conference Room A.

Are you confused by food labels that claim to be fat-free, reduced-fat or low-carb? Come and learn food label language and how to balance the scale. Group classes are offered twice a month. Individual appointments are also available. Physician’s referral is required.

Come share a morning with other women undergoing treatment for their cancer and learn how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of your treatment. This 2-hour session will teach you how to enhance your appearance by using make-up techniques taught by a professional, certified cosmetologist. Session and make-up kits are free of charge. Please register by contacting the American Cancer Society at 1.800.227.2345.  Advanced registration is important to ensure supplies are ready before your meeting.
